What is Stock Trading and Stock Investing?

Stock trading or stock investing is the commonly used terms to refer to the practice of selling or buying stocks in corporate companies at stock exchanges.

How do You Determine a Gain or Loss in Stock Trading Investing?

A gain or a loss in stock trading and investing is accumulated on the difference between the sales price and the purchase price.

When Can People Buy and Sell Stocks?

Stock trading investing can be conducted day or night. However more people trade during the day session because it is assumed that during daytime there is more liqudity.

What’s the largest U.S. Stock Exchange?

The New York Stock Exchange is the largest in the United States and also the world. This info is a little dated but in May of 2008 with market capitalization of its listed companies at US$28.5 trillion as of May 2008.

How to Make Stock Trading Investing Decisions

It used to be that stock traders and stock investors could only place trades with full service stock brokers. But times are changing and now we have the internet and now many people prefer to make their own trading decisions and trade with one of the many online discount stock brokerage companies. This is great if you have the time to study the markets and become proficient at technical analysis. If you don’t spend the time masteriing these skills you will not have much success. Stock trading requires a lot of knowledge and meticulousness.

What’s The Best Way To Trade?

I think the best way to trade is to find and ride the long term trends. if you need some nice free custom charts to look for new trends just take a look at website: MyCustomCharts.com. Try using the 3 expontial moving averages with a period of 20, 50 and 100. These moving aveages can be found in the drop down menu in the custom charts section on MyCustomCharts.

What is a Trend?

The overall direction in which the stock or stock market is moving.

Do All Stocks Always Trend?

Of course not.  You will need to use your moving averages to identiy new trends. Stocks will either be in a trading range where they just bounce back and forth while some will trend up and others will trend down. It all depends on the market, the economy, how well the company is doing and of course taxes.

I am 18 years old and I want to choose out of the investing or trading of stocks to make money for future business founding capital.

I personally think that trading tends to be more like margin based investing such as CFDs or spread betting, in which I have tried both in practice accounts but lost most of the time, especially with spread betting. I do, however, believe in the idea of value investing of stocks by directly purchasing stocks that are undervalued or stocks with high growth potential, (not penny shares!), What would you recommend is best in your opinion out of trading stocks or directly investing into stocks for high growth? What would you do? Please answer for best, best answer. Thanks.

Trading options, CFDS, futures, spread betting or any margin trading for that matter is risky. Additionally CFDs and options are leveraged products which means that you only need to deposit a small amount of the position outlay – this can potentially multiply profits but also losses. Trying to play with a small amount and using gearing at its maximum level is like playing russian roulette. Having said that with prudent trading it is very well possible to make a good income from stock market trading (I’m successful myself). If you’re just starting out it would be best to first buy shares using a traditional broker and as you mentioned you would do well to steer clear of penny shares.

Your best bet at 18 is probably to get a good education which will provide you with a solid foundation to build on in future…

Lets say I bought bunch of ABCD at $10
I want to sell it the price goes $9 or lower (This is called a Sell-Stop-Order)
I also wish to sell it once the price goes $12 or higher (How would I enter this order?)

Can I set both these criteria at the simultaneously?

It depends on your platform. But you’d use what’s commonly called an OCO or bracket order.
OCO = One Cancels Other.

So;
Sell Stop ABCD @ $9
Sell Limit @ $12

Which ever hits first is executed. The other is canceled.

I use this all the time on ThinkOrSwim and Interactive Brokers. Other brokers that would have this include TradeStation. You more amateur brokers won’t have this ability.
